CIC Point of View on the World Cup Trophy Controversy
Former cricketer Kirti Azad recently shared a strong reaction about the Indian team taking the World Cup trophy to a temple after the victory. But honestly, I feel that such statements from a senior cricketer should be made with more balance and responsibility.
First of all, the Indian cricket team represents 1.4 billion Indians, and that includes people of every religion, culture and background. That is the beauty of India.
But at the same time, we should also understand one simple thing — not everything in this country is politics.
For many people, faith and spirituality are a deeply personal matter.
When players or staff members pray in a temple, mosque, church or gurudwara, it is usually a way of expressing gratitude. Many athletes around the world thank God or visit religious places after achieving something big in their lives. That is a matter of personal belief, not a political statement.
If some members of the team or management offered prayers in a temple after such a historic victory, it can simply mean that they wanted to thank the divine power they believe in. There is nothing wrong with expressing gratitude for something you prayed for.
Turning every such moment into a religious or political debate only divides people unnecessarily.
Cricket has always been a sport that unites India. From the 1983 World Cup to today, players from every community have contributed to the country’s success. The spirit of Indian cricket has always been about teamwork, unity and pride for the nation.
So instead of creating controversy around where the trophy was taken, we should focus on the real achievement — Team India bringing glory to the country.
Let’s celebrate the victory together as Indians, rather than trying to divide it on religious lines.
🇮🇳 India won the World Cup — and that victory belongs to every Indian.

Ek itne bade cricketer ko kisi bhi dharm ko lekar aisi baat nahi bolni chahiye.
